The Ambient IoT Alliance, which was formed by leading industry giants like Infineon, Intel, PepsiCo, and Qualcomm, aims to develop and deploy energy harvesting in battery-less IoT sensor devices.
As the 5G standard is being developed, efforts are underway to incorporate ambient IoT as a 3GPP work item in versions 19 and 20 (5G Advanced). In addition, the Bluetooth SIG and IEEE (Wi-Fi) have their work topics. The Sigfox and LoRaWAN groups are working on similar projects.
According to the alliance, it seeks a multi-standard environment that is "open, harmonized, and aligned." It seeks participation from other businesses that manufacture or use IoT devices, networking middleware, apps, cloud services, and tags.
The alliance focuses on ambient IoT standards for low-cost, battery-free technologies that connect assets and goods and potentially enhance cloud-based AI applications. The claim that Ambient IoT and AI are symbiotic technologies is skewed toward the AI perspective.
Businesses and consumers will have an unparalleled grasp of the world around them as a result of their simultaneous ascent. The advantages for the company are enormous. The next big data platform for utilizing AI and achieving the enormous return on investment that AI solutions offer is ambient IoT.
Presumably, the idea is that once the battery is removed, the Internet of Things will become really "massive." The knowledge gained from sophisticated analytics will continue to transform corporate operations as ambient IoT gains acceptance and spreads throughout all industries. For ambient IoT to realize its full potential and change the world in the interim.
