During the final day of Paris Fashion Week on Tuesday, Nicolas Ghesquiere, the womenswear designer of Louis Vuitton, unveiled a collection of layered ensembles with short, voguish skirts and jackets with puffy sleeves.
The runway, which was assembled in a makeshift location within the Louvre Museum's courtyard, was constructed from a collage of trunk facades. It passed through the middle of the room and, as it rose up into a podium, signaled the beginning of the performance.
The models emerged, flaunting waist-cinched tops and their freely attached neckties and lengthy necklaces swinging.
The presentation moved at a faster pace throughout, even when the silhouettes became longer and included loose, bohemian pants and overcoats which swept the floor.
Handbags were available in a variety of sizes and styles, and some versions carried multiples that were stacked like jewelry.
Dressy heels featured leather patches with an unusual design in the middle, while casual flats with thick, mismatched leather straps paid homage to the brand's history in leatherworking.
Bernard Arnault, Chairman and CEO of LVMH, grinned broadly as Ghesquiere bounced down onto the runway to take a bow at the end of the show. Arnault was seated in the front row. The first lady of France, Brigitte Macron, who is renowned for dressing in Vuitton for formal occasions, was seated behind him and sent the fashion designer a kiss.
