iOS 17 security updates

On September 16 2024, Apple will confirm that compatible devices will start receiving the stable version of iOS 18.

During the company's "It's Glowtime" event on Monday, the news was made. Users do have the option, though, to continue using iOS 17 and continue to get security updates. Users who prefer not to update to the new operating system right away and who don't want to cope with potential launch-day minor problems and malfunctions may find this concession helpful.

Users of iPhones may be able to stick on iOS 17 for a while. According to a 9to5Mac article, iPhone users can stick on iOS 17, even though it's customary to update to the latest OS version as soon as it becomes available. Along with the iOS 18 Release Candidate (RC), Apple also made the iOS 17.7 Release Candidate (RC) available to developers and public beta testers on Monday. This implies that consumers who are not eager to try out iOS 18 will be able to download and utilize the upgrade.

The iOS 17.7 RC has the most recent security patches and bug fixes, but it does not appear to have any new features. When iOS 17 was last introduced, Apple also provided consumers with security upgrades for iOS 16 for a brief while.

Users may be able to access iOS 17 security patches after iOS 18 releases if the same pattern holds up this year. Apple Security updates, which are compatible with all phones running iOS 17, will be made available to devices that do not support iOS 18 after a specific amount of time.

Users who choose not to upgrade to the newest OS version on their device will be missing out on all the new features, like customizable Home Screens, Apple

Redesigned control center, interchangeable lock screen icons, intelligence, and more. They will be able to dodge any minor issues with the new operating system, though, as it may take the tech giant a few weeks to fix them.
