Microsoft outage 2024

Another worldwide Microsoft downtime has hit the company’s products, such as the computer game Minecraft and the email service Outlook.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the disruption was caused by a cyberattack and a failure to fight against the same, the business said in an update. The problem has been rectified.

The nearly 10-hour-long outage resulted in thousands of users reporting that Microsoft services were down. It happened less than two weeks after a significant worldwide Microsoft cyberattack that affected about 8.5 million Microsoft system-powered PCs. The disruption, which affected travel and healthcare, was caused by a software upgrade that was not done correctly by cybersecurity company CrowdStrike.

According to an update posted on the Microsoft Azure cloud computing platform's website, while a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack was the initial trigger event, preliminary investigations indicate that a mistake in Microsoft's defenses' implementation increased the Microsoft security breach's impact rather than lessened it.

Microsoft announced that it has fixed the issue, indicating progress, and the behemoth in technology will keep an eye on things to guarantee a full recovery. The firm expressed their heartfelt apologies for the inconvenience in a message on X, the former Twitter. The disruption impacted operations that depend on Microsoft's infrastructure.
