When was the last business catastrophe brought on by a Mac?

Mac disaster

You may wish to consider the following questions when you select the platforms that will serve as the foundation for your future AI-powered company.

When your organization starts evaluating the platforms, suppliers, and devices it wants to use as the foundation for its AI initiatives, remember the importance of security, privacy, and resilience in any ecosystem you select.

As you consider your options, consider whether or not Apple's Mac or any of its other platforms have ever resulted in a worldwide corporate catastrophe like the one that occurred recently due to Crowdstrike/Microsoft.

Now is the moment to think about the situation with candor and ruthless honesty. Consider this: has utilizing Apple technology ever caused any outages, breaches, or damages for your business or for you personally? There will undoubtedly be certain instances, most often involving brief iCloud service disruptions or lax backup and archiving procedures (data corruption is a possibility, so make sure to back it up before it happens). It is possible that certain organizations have been subjected to some form of hack, and we are all aware of the incredibly dishonest companies who provide monitoring services and aim to increase unhappiness on the planet.

To be honest, though, how many times has Apple allowed any of that to happen with its Lockdown Mode? Although it's difficult to respond to that question, we do have some information:

  • Apple claimed in 2024 to have halted about $7 billion in App Store fraud during the preceding four years.
  • Approximately 374 million developer and customer accounts were closed by the company during these campaigns as a result of security, privacy, and fraud concerns.

Apple shared information about the App Store to show how it operates, but authorities didn't pay attention. The information indicates that Apple is a target for thieves trying to compromise its security. Still, the company is vigilant about security to prevent successful attacks. Apple has released over sixty security upgrades this year, working closely with security researchers. Despite predictions, Apple is already vulnerable but reacts quickly to fix vulnerabilities and is not as insecure as other platforms. In contrast, Microsoft was criticized for allegedly not fixing potential vulnerabilities in Office for Mac.
