Google says the Pixel 8a will once again feature battery stats

Google verifies Pixel 8a, restoring battery details, announcing two storage options, four colors, and a 6.1-inch screen with Tensor G3 CPU, 8GB RAM, and twin back camera arrangement.

The midrange and forthcoming Pixel devices will once again have access to a function recently deleted from Android, as confirmed by Google, which has also formally recognized the existence of the Pixel 8a. User reports regarding the absence of the battery information tab in the Android settings prompted the confirmation.

On the company's bug tracker page, a Google employee claimed — as 9to5Google first reported — that the battery information page — which shows the battery's cycle count and manufacturing date — was only supposed to work with Pixel 8a and later models. The functionality was removed from Android 14 QPR2 after it was first added in the early beta version of the operating system last year.

Pixel owners are questioning the choice to restrict the battery data function to newer hardware since they feel that future devices shouldn't be the only ones receiving this fundamental information on battery health. The many user comments on the issue tracker may cause Google to reevaluate its position. Rumors are that the Pixel 8a would resemble the Pixel 8 phones released last year, including rounded edges and a dual back camera configuration hidden below the visor. The phone may include the Tensor G3 CPU, 8GB RAM, and a 6.1-inch screen.
