Cisco's 28.8T / 36 x 800G line card, powered by the Cisco Silicon One P100 ASIC, offers up to 15 Tbps per rack unit, making it 6 times more space-efficient.
Cisco today unveiled 800G innovations, which will help its customers connect the approximately 40% of the world's population that is still unconnected or underserved. These innovations will continue to transform the Internet's economy and sustainability in the future.
The number of IoT devices is increasing from billions to trillions, and this means that more bandwidth is needed to connect all of them via 5G and Wi-Fi as well as for the AI and ML workloads that are necessary to extract insights from the data. AI/ML clusters are growing at a very fast rate in data center environments because of applications like recommendation engines, generative AI, search, language processing, and search. These workloads demand more bandwidth than traditional workloads. Along with capacity development in Data Center Interconnect, AI/ML fabrics must scale with denser spines that are essential to handling the enormous number of processors with low latency.
Although the expansion of bandwidth appears limitless, electricity and space are finite. It is necessary to have dense and power-efficient platforms. Compared to 400G/100G modular solutions, Cisco is increasing the capacity of data center networks, metro cores, and backbones for Webscale and communication service providers. Cisco Silicon One has developed a 28.8Tbps line card for Cisco 8000 Series routers, which reduces operating costs and investments by reusing equipment and reducing hardware usage for scaling, thus reducing carbon emissions.
