A Minneapolis shooting has claimed three victims and injured others plus as gunfire erupted at an apartment building on Wednesday afternoon. Two police officers were among the casualties as the suspect died by suicide, a source revealed.
Police Respond to Gunfire at Apartment Building
A deadly Minneapolis shooting sent police rushing to a downtown apartment building Wednesday, leaving three people dead and several others injured. The police officers arrived at the Loring Tower apartment building after being alerted to the fact that a person had been shot before 4:36 pm.
They got to the location within minutes and entered the building where they found more than one victim on the ground and the sound of gunfire coming from upstairs. As they approached the upper floors where the shooter was they were confronted by a smoke-filled building, from where the shooting was still coming and the officers then suffered two gunshots with a third one injured.
Meanwhile, the first officer was taken to the hospital after being shot in the abdominal region and was reported to be in stable condition following surgery. The second officer was injured in the leg, suffering only non-critical injuries and would be back on duty in no time.
Two Victims Die, Suspect Found Dead
There were four victims of the shooting, with one death recorded at the apartment building and another one at the hospital. Two more people were also admitted to the hospital.
According to sources, the police were called to the apartment earlier this Wednesday after the shooter had been ejected from the building.
Minneapolis Police Interim Chief Bill Peterson paid tribute to the heroic actions of the officers who arrived at the scene of the shooting. “I want to express my sincere gratitude and my pride in the officers who responded without hesitation and heroically placed themselves between a violent shooter and those he intended to harm. Their bravery is undeniable and we owe them a tremendous debt of gratitude,” Peterson said.
