What Happened?

Police say the teenager had visited Kalkaji Mandir with a 17-year-old male companion, around 7 pm to offer prayers. The two headed over to Astha Kunj Park at 7:30 pm, where three men, aged 25 to 30, approached them claiming to be policemen, in one of the most bizarre instances of fake cops Delhi rape case so far this year.

The accused allegedly brandished a weapon and a knife, restrained the boy and gang-raped the girl before fleeing the scene. A call to PCR was made at 8:45 pm, where police then arrived and took the victim to AIIMS for tests, a POCSO case being filed following her statement.

On early Tuesday police tracked down one of the accused, identified as Asif, in South-East Delhi who allegedly fired at police officers before being shot in the leg and apprehended. He is currently in custody recovering from his injuries and being questioned by investigators looking to identify the other two men with the help of CCTV footage.
