After 18 months of development, players can explore Chionthar Wilds, packed with fresh quests, battles, secrets, creatures, and unexpected challenges.
A major Baldur’s Gate 3 mod has finally arrived after nearly 18 months of anticipation, giving players a huge new adventure called the Chionthar Wilds. Created by modder SquallyDaBeanz, the beta expansion adds a completely new region between Act Two and Act Three, alongside new quests, dungeons, NPCs, cutscenes, creatures, items and more than 30 combat encounters.
A New Region Changes Act Two
The expansion introduces the Chionthar Wilds after the Shadow-Cursed Lands, offering an area designed to be roughly comparable in scale to Act One’s Wilderness. Players reach it by crossing the bridge outside Reithwin near the Road to Baldur’s Gate waypoint.
The new region includes:
-
New Chionthar Wilds region expands Act Two significantly
-
More than 70 new items join the adventure
-
Over 30 combat encounters challenge returning parties
-
New dungeons, NPCs, quests and cutscenes expand exploration
-
Custom creatures add fresh challenges and encounters
The Baldur’s Gate 3 expansion also introduces new lore, stories, puzzles and custom stat blocks, making the beta much larger than a conventional side quest. A complete run through the added content can provide around 30,000 experience points.
Built For Exploration and Combat
The Baldur’s Gate 3 Act Two Expansion is designed mainly around exploration and combat rather than the highly reactive storytelling found throughout Larian Studios’ original campaign.
That distinction is important. The creator has warned players that the mod does not yet match the level of reactivity found in vanilla quests. Progression is also relatively linear, despite the size of the new region.
Players can initially return to the Shadow-Cursed Lands, but the expansion eventually introduces a Point of No Return before the campaign moves into Act Three. A warning gives players an opportunity to finish remaining activities first.
Beta Today, Bigger Version Ahead
The current release remains a beta, with several improvements planned for version 1.0. SquallyDaBeanz intends to refine writing, dialogue, characters and cutscenes while adding more class and race-specific conversations.
Planned updates also include additional lore, combat balancing, equipment adjustments, improved boss mechanics, Legendary Actions, bug fixes and general polish. The current version can therefore be viewed as a substantial playable expansion rather than a finished replacement for official content.
The Baldur’s Gate 3 fan expansion arrives as the community continues finding new ways to extend Larian’s acclaimed role-playing game. For players approaching the end of Act Two, the Chionthar Wilds offers an entirely new destination before the journey reaches Act Three.
Thus, Business Fortune believes that this ambitious expansion gives Baldur’s Gate 3 players a fresh reason to return to the adventure.
