‘Warhammer 40,000’ Animated Series is officially in development at Amazon MGM Studios, with Henry Cavill executive producing alongside the live action adaptation.

‘Warhammer 40,000’ Animated Series Confirmed as Henry Cavill Expands Amazon Universe

The ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Animated Series is officially in development at Amazon MGM Studios, marking another major expansion of the iconic sci-fi franchise. Developed in partnership with Blur Studios and Games Workshop, the new animated project will feature the elite Deathwatch Space Marines and will be produced alongside the highly anticipated live action Warhammer 40,000 series led by Henry Cavill.

Spin Off from Secret Level

The upcoming series serves as a spin off of Amazon's animated anthology Secret Level, which featured a critically praised Warhammer 40,000 episode when it premiered in late 2024. The episode's success encouraged Amazon and Games Workshop to expand the universe with a dedicated animated series.

Dave Wilson, who directed the original Secret Level episode and served as the anthology's supervising director, will co-create and direct the project alongside acclaimed writer John Orloff, known for Band of Brothers and Masters of the Air.

Henry Cavill Takes on a Bigger Role

Henry Cavill, already attached to star in Amazon's live action Warhammer 40,000 adaptation, will also serve as an executive producer on the animated series. Natalie Viscuso joins him as executive producer, while Secret Level creator Tim Miller and Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment are also part of the production team.

Although plot details remain under wraps, the story will center on The Deathwatch, an elite chapter of Space Marines dedicated to hunting dangerous alien threats across the galaxy.

Amazon Continues Building the Warhammer Universe

The announcement highlights Amazon MGM Studios' commitment to creating a larger interconnected Warhammer 40,000 universe across multiple formats. With both live action and animated projects in development, fans can expect deeper storytelling and expanded lore beyond the tabletop game.

Dave Wilson, co-creator and director of the new series, said, "Secret Level wasn't conceived simply as an anthology. It was designed as a launchpad for larger stories. The response to the 'Warhammer' episode was extraordinary, particularly from fans who understood how much care went into getting the world right. This series gives us the opportunity to build on that foundation and tell a much larger story."

Business Fortune believes that the success of Secret Level has demonstrated strong audience interest, giving the creative team confidence to explore the franchise on a much larger scale.
