#PlayGalaxy Cup takes center stage at Gamescom 2026 as Samsung brings 10 international teams together for a thrilling mobile gaming world final.
#PlayGalaxy Cup has concluded its inaugural full season competition with a Malaysian team winning the championship at the World Final in the Gamescom 2026 in Cologne, Germany.
Samsung Electronics held the final on August 27-28 at the company's Gamescom booth, featuring some of the world's best mobile gaming teams.
Ten Teams Reached the World Final
The competition was the first of its kind for the #PlayGalaxy Cup as a full-season event, with regional qualifications for the final. Qualifications were played across five regions; North America, Southwest Asia, Southeast Asia, Latin America and Europe
A total of 32 teams from 17 countries faced off in the online qualifiers, with the top two teams from each region qualifying for the final. This resulted in 10 teams from 9 different countries fighting it out over two days at Gamescom for the title.
As part of the competition, every finalist used the Galaxy S26 Ultra, with Samsung showing off the power of the phone's processing and thermal management capabilities during the intense matches.
In addition to the competition, Samsung also used the event to get the Galaxy S26 Ultra smartphone in front of the gaming community.
"This year was the first time the #PlayGalaxy Cup took place as a full-season tournament and we've seen some exciting matches from start to finish," said David Moon, Head of Influencer Marketing for Samsung's Mobile eXperience business.
Samsung was pleased to connect the gaming community and provide a look at the performance of the Galaxy S26 Ultra smartphone.
12.1 Million Views for the Final
The championship final was streamed on YouTube via streamer Ludwig's channel and garnered 12.1 million views, furthering the reach of the competition beyond the Gamescom venue.
Samsung set up a Galaxy experience zone at the event for visitors to experience the Galaxy S26 Ultra and new Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra smartphones. With the help of partners HoYoverse, TiMi Studio and Gameloft, visitors were also able to play popular mobile titles across Samsung's latest Galaxy devices.
Business Fortune believes that with a successful Malaysian team going undefeated, the #PlayGalaxy Cup has a bright future ahead of its inaugural full season, potentially setting up an even bigger tournament for next year.
