T20 World Cup Player of the Tournament Sanju Samson said India’s deep talent pool can drive more major trophies ahead.
T20 World Cup Player of the Tournament Sanju Samson expressed his hope that India would continue to win significant trophies in the upcoming years, even though the thrill of winning the title had not yet subsided. He claimed that he still sometimes wonders whether it truly happened when he wakes up in the morning.
Samson added that because of the country's wide range of talent, such triumphs will not be rare. Rather, he believes India will repeat this achievement more often, as many talented players continue to enter the system. Samson made these remarks on the fringes of the BCCI Naman Awards. He also stated that winning a World Cup for India has always been one of his biggest ambitions. In the tournament he scored 321 runs after initially missing the first five games.
He said that while a player may have an idea of where he wants to go he may not always be able to control the precise route that takes him there. When Samson thought back on his travels he saw his career as a clear example of how plans may suddenly change. He had hoped to accomplish something similar and win a World Cup for his nation a few years prior, but things did not go as planned.
Samson ended by adding that he was thankful for what had occurred to him at the World Cup and that, although it felt like he was in a movie, it was also a turning point in his life. Prior to the World Cup, he had largely concentrated on himself and his performance, particularly in New Zealand. However, he started to understand what the team needed from him as a player.
He recalled the moment he grasped this Zimbabwean game. When he realized that the squad expected him to step up and help them win he knew he had to give it his all in order to support his team. He started to feel more assured at that moment and started to make a bigger impression as a player at the World Cup.
In addition, Samson prepared himself both mentally and physically for when an opportunity would arise to play in the World Cup. Once that came he felt completely prepared because of how he prepared for it. As he has played T20 cricket for many years, the next step was to plan accordingly, implement the strategies he developed while playing in the game and execute at the time when the plays were needed most.
