Iran confirms death of top official Ali Larijani in Israeli airstrike, as President Masoud Pezeshkian promises revenge and resistance.
Iranian state media revealed that Ali Larijani, the country's top security official, was killed in an Israeli bombing as the US-Israeli war against Iran reached its third week. This was a blow to Tehran's leadership. Masoud Pezeshkian, the president of Iran, expressed condolences and vowed to take revenge.
Larijani was killed during overnight sraeli airstrike while visiting his daughter's house in the Pardis area, an eastern suburb of Tehran. Larijani's absence, according to Pezeshkian, was "bitter and upsetting." In addition to praising Larijani's many decades of devotion to Iran's leadership, Pezeshkian declared that the nation would keep up its resistance and defiance.
Mojtaba Khamenei, the late Ayatollah's son who took power after his father's death on February 28, is Iran's new supreme leader. Israel's military then pledged to destroy him as well. Brigadier General Effie Defrin, a military spokesman, told media that they don't know about Mojtaba Khamenei, they don't hear him, they don't see him, but they will track down, find him, and neutralize him. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu characterized Larijani saying that he is the boss of Revolutionary Guards, which is the gang of gangsters that actually runs Iran.
He added that it will take time and effort for the Iranian people to overthrow their government. However, if they continue in this manner, they will have an opportunity to control Iran’s destiny. Larijani walked among crowds at a pro-government demonstration in Tehran last week, while Mojtaba Khamenei has not been seen in public since his appointment.
On a night typically marked by joyous celebrations ahead of the Persian New Year Nowruz, images on Iranian state television showed large crowds rallying from the early evening in Tehran and other cities, many of them carrying the country's flag. The funerals for Larijani and Gholamreza Soleimani, the leader of the Basij paramilitary group who was also killed by Israel on Tuesday, will take place in central Tehran today.
