India joins US-led Pax Silica for AI

India joins the Pax Silica, a US-led geopolitical and economic alliance designed to secure the global supply chain for AI, semiconductors, and critical minerals.

India signed an agreement to join a US-led strategic alliance 'Pax Silica' on Friday, February 20, 2026. The initiative was launched in December and is aimed at strengthening supply chains for critical minerals and artificial intelligence.

The declaration was signed during the recent India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, indicating India's formal participation in a framework aimed at developing a safe, robust, and innovation-driven supply chain for essential minerals and AI. The program aims to improve technological cooperation and secure access to critical resources required by next-generation enterprises.

After signing the pact, Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, said that India has now become a part of the Pax Silica which will greatly benefit India's electronics and semiconductor industry. Ten plants were already established in India and are in the process of being established immediately where the first semiconductor plant will begin commercial production. According to him, Pax Silica will be essential and the youth of India will benefit from it. “A complete ecosystem is emerging in India”, he said.

US Ambassador Sergio Gor considers this as a significant involvement for India, pointing to the country's engineering skill, advancements in mineral processing, and contribution to strengthen US-India technology cooperation. Gor described the initiative as a strategic alliance between India and the United States to shape the economic and technological order of the twenty-first century. He emphasized that "peace comes through strength" and that the partnership's goal is to promote trusted AI internationally.

The declaration highlights a shared vision for greater economic and scientific cooperation throughout supply chains, from raw commodities to semiconductors and artificial intelligence infrastructure, as well as a commitment to mutual prosperity and security. One of the primary pillars of Pax Silica is the development of a long-term economic framework to support AI-powered growth in member countries.
