Galgotias University AI Summit Exit

Galgotias University was asked to leave the AI summit for misrepresenting imported robotic dog as original creation.

Galgotias University, a leading academic institution in the Greater Noida was asked by the authorities to vacate the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, a day after it showcased a Chinese-made robot as its own on February 18, 2026. This comes after the institution faced criticism after a video from the event went viral, showing its representatives presenting a Chinese-made robotic dog as something created by the university's Centre of Excellence.

The controversy started when Galgotias University displayed a robotic dog called "Orion" at the AI Summit expo, which the viewers said was a Chinese-made Unitree Go2 and not an own creation of the university. The robodog in question is a commercially available model from the Chinese robotics company called Unitree that is sold online in India for between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 3 lakh.

Following the internet reaction, Galgotias University issued a statement on social media clarifying that it never claimed to have created the robot dog. "Galgotias has not built this robodog, nor have we claimed to do so," according to the university's statement. The university added, what they are building are the minds that will soon design, engineer, and manufacture such technologies in the country.

Professor Neha Singh from the institution is heard claiming that the robot dog, named Orion, was produced by Galgotias institution's Centre of Excellence. Soon after, numerous viewers reported that the robot dog was derived from the Chinese robotics company Unitree.

In defense, Professor Neha said the internet has gone by storm with just one misinterpretation, it might be that she could not convey well what she had wanted to say, or the people could not understand well what she wanted to say. She claims that she is a faculty member in communications at the School of Management, not in AI. She added that, as a university they are standing tall and the robot was brought to the summit only for projection.
