A private Learjet carrying Deputy CM Ajit Pawar and four others crash-landed near Baramati Airport at 8:48 AM, survivors feared.
Ajit Pawar, the deputy chief minister of Maharashtra, and four other people were on board a Learjet 45 XR when it crashed on Wednesday close to the Baramati runway. According to the information, VSR Ventures' aircraft (VT-SSK) took off from Mumbai and was on an approach to land at Baramati when it crashed. According to an air traffic control source, the aircraft crash-landed at 08:48 am near the threshold of Baramati airport's runway 11. The aircraft caught fire. It is suspected that there are no survivors.
Directorate General of Civil Aviation official stated there were two personnel and two crew members on board. Right now rescue efforts are underway. In the past 2.5 years, VSR Ventures has been involved in two accidents in Maharashtra. However no one was killed in the last accident.
The Learjet 45XR aircraft VT-DBL, owned by VSR Ventures, was involved in the prior accident, which happened in Mumbai on the 14th of September 2023. Six people were on board the airplane when it operated an unscheduled passenger journey from Visakhapatnam to Mumbai. From Visakhapatnam the plane took off normally and the flight was uneventful. The airplane was given landing permission and allowed to land on Runway 27.
The Mumbai Airport was suffering severe rain and poor visibility at the time of landing which was around five in the evening. The plane veered to the right of runway twenty-seven and headed for Apron C during the landing. The stick shaker alarm and stall warning sounded in the cockpit around forty seconds after the autopilot was deactivated. The aircraft crash-landed near the shoulder of the intersection of Taxiway W and Taxiway N after EGPWS alerts were received.
The airplane eventually came to a rest close to the intersection of Taxiway U and Taxiway N on an unpaved area (near stand C80) after its fuselage broke into two pieces and skidded. Firefighters raced to the scene and put out the fire that had begun after the collision. Although all of the aircraft's occupants were evacuated the accident caused a variety of injuries.
