OpenAI and Samsung collaborate to advance AI data centers, semiconductors, and floating data center technology, supporting Korea’s AI leadership goals.
OpenAI, Samsung Electronics, Samsung SDS, Samsung C&T, and Samsung Heavy Industries have come together to publicize of letter of intent(LOI), a strategic collaboration to accelerate development in the world's AI data center infrastructure.
This signing ceremony was held at Samsung’s corporate headquarters in Seoul, Korea, attended by Young Hyun Jun, Vice Chairman & CEO of Samsung Electronics; Sung-an Choi, Vice Chairman & CEO of Samsung Heavy Industries; Sechul Oh, President & CEO of Samsung C&T; and Junehee Lee, President & CEO of Samsung SDS.
Together, they also plan to develop future technologies in relevant fields. In a press release, Samsung revealed that this partnership will bring the collective strengths of Samsung businesses over semiconductors, data centers, shipbuilding, cloud services, and maritime technologies.
Samsung Electronics will work with OpenAI as a strategic memory partner to supply advanced semiconductor keys for OpenAI’s universal Stargate initiative. Meanwhile, Samsung SDS has the potential to collaborate with OpenAI to jointly increase AI data centers and provide an innovative AI service. In the design, development, and operations of the Stargate AI data centers. Additionally, Samsung SDS has signed a reseller partnership of OpenAI’s services, plans to support local firms in adopting OpenAI’s ChatGPT by offering.
Samsung C&T and Samsung Heavy Industries will collaborate with OpenAI to advance global AI data centers, with full focus on the joint development of floating data centers. The Floating data centers are considered to have gains over data centers because they can address the land scarcity, lower cooling costs and also reduce carbon emissions.
Samsung C&T and Samsung Heavy Industries will also explore opportunities to follow projects in floating power plants and control centers, growing their proprietary capabilities, in addition to floating data center infrastructure.
Starting with collaboration with OpenAI, Samsung's strategy is to fully support Korea’s goals to become one of the top three nations in AI in the world and create new opportunities in the field.
