Business Fortune- IndiGo Begins New MRO Facility at Bengaluru Airport

IndiGo is constructing a new maintenance facility in Bengaluru to maintain aircraft and generate employment.

IndiGo has started constructing its new maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility at Bengaluru International Airport. The Airline stated that the operation of the MRO facility will start by 2028. It will feature up to 12 bays, be able to accommodate both wide-body and narrow aircraft, and be constructed on 31 acres of land.

Several important people attended the occasion, including Gunjan Krishna, the Karnataka government's Commissioner for Industries, Pieter Elbers, the CEO of IndiGo, and Hari Marar, the CEO of Bangalore International Airport Ltd. In May, IndiGo and BIAL inked a memorandum of understanding for the distribution of land. According to IndiGo, this facility would further contribute to the development of the country by creating over a thousand jobs for engineers, technicians, and other professionals.

They are thrilled to be starting the construction of this magnificent facility in Bengaluru. With more than 200 daily flights, Bengaluru is one of their largest bases, and this improves their operational presence there as well. By creating a comprehensive aviation ecosystem in the country, this is also a significant step in determining the direction of Indian aviation, according to Elbers.

The airline and its customers will benefit from the development of such a facility, which will also help strengthen the aerospace and defense ecosystem in Karnataka, according to IndiGo, which has more than 400 aircraft in its fleet. IndiGo will benefit greatly from dedicated O facilities in terms of airplane availability, increased cost efficiency, and faster turnaround.
