Sanjog Gupta to lead ICC’s global expansion, aiming for Olympic inclusion and growth.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has named Sanjog Gupta as its incoming Chief Executive Officer. He will undertake the position on Monday, the seventh CEO in ICC history. The appointment came following a highly competitive global recruitment campaign that attracted over 2,500 applications from 25 countries, a testament to the importance of this key leadership role.
ICC Chairman Jay Shah welcomed Sanjog Gupta, valuing his diverse experience in sports strategy and commercialization. Shah appreciated the nuances of the global sport industry, media, and entertainment commerce. He described Gupta's passion for technology along with the commitment towards the enhancement of the cricket fan experience.
Sanjog Gupta started his career as a journalist before being hired at Star India (now JioStar) in 2010. He played a key role in amplifying big cricket tournaments like ICC events and the Indian Premier League (IPL). Sanjog Gupta also contributed to building other sports leagues like the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) and the Indian Super League (ISL). His efforts contributed to developing international sporting events such as Wimbledon and the Premier League, supporting consumer and commercial business expansion.
In his new role, Gupta mentioned that he is honored to lead cricket at a time when it is undergoing phenomenal growth. He mentioned the passion of the sport's fan base across nearly 2 billion people globally. He also mentioned exciting opportunities ahead, such as cricket's inclusion in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games and greater adoption of technology in sport. Gupta is interested in developing the international fan base for cricket, increasing the fans' engagement, and working closely with ICC member boards. He wants to make cricket reach new heights and firmly establish it on the global platform.
