Great British Energy has formally appointed Dan McGrail as its permanent Chief Executive Officer. The British-owned company has a critical role in the government's Plan for Change to position the UK as a world leader in clean energy. McGrail was appointed after a successful four-month stint as interim CEO, during which he spearheaded the company's establishment and brought forward major clean energy projects.

Dan McGrail applies a robust private sector background to his new role. Before this, he was CEO of RenewableUK and Siemens Engines, which gave him the ability to to lead the UK's publicly owned clean power company. Under his leadership, Great British Energy laid out a £1 billion investment in clean energy supply chains, such as electric cables and floating offshore wind platforms, making sure these crucial components of the energy transition are made in Britain.

The firm is already making a difference in communities by making investments in rooftop solar panels for about 200 schools and 200 hospitals. The solar initiatives are anticipated to reduce energy bills substantially, saving millions that will go back to education and healthcare. Energy Secretary Ed Miliband hailed McGrail's leadership, describing him as a world-class, experienced visionary. Miliband noted that Great British Energy is at the heart of the UK's clean power vision and will make manufacturing jobs a reality nationwide.

Dan McGrail stated that he is delighted to head Great British Energy from its Aberdeen base at this critical moment. He emphasized the business's mission to grow clean energy projects and offer the public an interest in the UK's clean energy future. Renewable UK Deputy Chief Executive Jane Cooper also welcomed McGrail and was optimistic that he could promote renewable energy development and employment opportunities across the country.
