Eternal appoints Aditya Mangla as the CEO of Zomato's food delivery and ordering section due to slow progress. With an aim to strengthen leadership and improve operational efficiency.
Aditya Mangla has been chosen as the new CEO of Zomato's food delivery and ordering section by its parent company, Eternal. Approved by the board of directors on July 6 and was made public in a regulatory report. This action marks a major shift in leadership at a time when the company's main delivery operation continues to grow at a slower rate.
Rakesh Ranjan is replaced by Mangla, but Ranjan will continue to work there in a different role. Mangla will be in charge of the food delivery sector for two years. This change in leadership takes place as Zomato's food delivery slows down. Company reported a gross order value (GOV) of ₹9,778 crore for the January–March period, that is 1% behind the previous period but 16% more than the previous year. This pattern shows similar challenges faced by competitors like Swiggy.
Mangla has held a number of important positions since joining Zomato in March 2021 that include Head of Supply, Head of Customer Experience, and, most recently, Head of Product for the food delivery department. Working together with Zomato's founder and CEO, Deepinder Goyal, he also held the position of chief of staff. Graduating from the Indian School of Business and Carnegie Mellon University provides a strong basis in operations and handling products. Zomato's attempt to strengthen its performance and adapt to changing circumstances in the market is evident in Mangla’s appointment.
