Motorists in the UK risk a £50 fine if their car’s windscreen, lights, or number plate are too dirty, as per Highway Code regulations.

Depending on how recently they cleaned their vehicle, drivers could face a £50 charge. Enforcement officials have cautioned that drivers who allow their cars to become overly unclean risk fines. Some car owners tend to be careless about frequent washing of their cars, but that will be required in order to have a clean vehicle, especially when peering down at the surface of the car from the license plate, lights, and even the windscreen so that fines do not show up.

According to Tiger.co.uk, the website which compares insurance policies, car owners will be penalized for poor management of their cars. Additionally, a dirty windscreen can hinder your driving visibility and result in fines, and a poorly visible license plate can make it difficult for law enforcement to identify your vehicle.

They added that the Highway Code requirement of keeping clear and clean number plates, lights and indicators, and reflectors. The Road Vehicle Lighting Regulations 1989 states that the lights must also be hygienic and functional.

The Roadside Recovery Association, or RAC, offers drivers and road users tips on how to clean their motors in half the time on its website.

According to them, there are a few prerequisites before they can begin explaining how to wash your car. According to them, you should at least have a garden hose with a spray gun attachment, but ideally you should have a pressure washer. A microfiber drying towel, auto shampoo, a wash mitt, and two buckets are also required.
