Ten research projects and ten cooperative projects will be part of the Indo-Italian program.
Italian University and Research Minister Anna Maria Bernini, who is now visiting India, paid a visit to Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh in a major step to strengthen bilateral scientific collaboration.
The two Ministers' signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) of collaboration was the meeting's high point. The two dignitaries' conversations focused on developing collaborative projects in biotechnology, artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, and other cutting-edge fields.
On the margins of the G20 Summit in Brazil, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni had bilateral talks that resulted in the unveiling of a Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-2029, as Dr. Jitendra Singh recounted. A common vision for cooperative innovation in science and technology is outlined in the plan.
In line with this goal, both countries agreed to execute the 2025–2027 Executive Programme for Scientific and Technological Cooperation, which aims to promote cooperation in vital technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and digitalization and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cooperation in scientific research.
During the Joint Science & Technology Committee Meeting on April 10, 2025, Dr. Jitendra Singh reaffirmed India's commitment to bilateral research by announcing the signing of the Indo-Italian Executive Programme of Cooperation (EPOC) for 2025–2027. So far, both nations have effectively carried out more than 150 cooperative research initiatives within the EPOC framework. Ten research mobility applications and ten major collaborative research projects in a variety of scientific fields are jointly funded under the present program.
