Solar Eclipse 2025: When & Where to Watch on March 29

Solar gazing enthusiasts have a reason to rejoice because March 29, 2025, will deliver an intriguing partial solar eclipse.

The visual spectacle of this event will mainly benefit observers from northeastern parts of the United States and Canadian regions, shortly following the total lunar eclipse. The event will display the sun in a crescent shape through which the sun appears bitten by the moon during sunrise.

A partial solar eclipse occurs when the moon travels into position between our planet and the sun which creates partial blocking of sunlight. A part of solar light will be observable throughout this eclipse that creates a crescent-shaped effect unlike complete solar eclipses where the sun disappears completely from view. The upcoming show will present an exceptional view yet it will appear less spectacular than what a total eclipse offers.

Space.com predicts the eclipse will take place from 4:50 to 8:43 a.m. ET. The occasion will become accessible to 800 million viewers while the northeastern United States holds the most excellent view positions. The public in seven northeastern states including Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia will be able to witness the 2025 solar eclipse. The climatic conditions of a spot along with its geographical situation will determine how the event will be seen.

Total solar eclipses maintain their duration between 10 seconds and nearly 7.5 minutes depending on the specific conditions. The upcoming July 16, 2186 solar eclipse will be the longest total solar eclipse spanning 7 minutes and 29 seconds in the 12,000-year period from 4000 BCE to 8000 CE.
