World No. 4 Jessica Pegula narrowly defeated Emma Raducanu in the quarterfinals of the Miami Open, ending her impressive run.
The 22-year-old Briton tied the match despite requiring medical attention, but American Pegula expertly recovered to win 6-4, 6-7 (3-7), and 6-2. Raducanu displayed arguably some of her greatest tennis since winning the 2021 US Open Grand Slam as a teenager in the second set.
In the eighth game, with a 5-2 advantage and four set points, the world number 60 called the doctor.
Before continuing, she was given ice cloths to chill down and had her blood pressure checked. Raducanu's resilience and perseverance in winning the second set were remarkable. However, Pegula showed why she is one of the most reliable opponents on the WTA Tour, as she was unable to complete the job.
Runner-up at the US Open According to Pegula, it was difficult. She simply wanted to pounce on her and come out strong and fast in the third set.
In the semi-finals on Friday, the 31-year-old will face 19-year-old Alexandra Eala of the Philippines. Earlier on Wednesday, Eala stunned five-time major winner Iga Swiatek, continuing her incredible run.
