This year's sessions at the Jewelry Symposium (TJS) will focus on production advances using additive manufacturing, the application of artificial intelligence in design, and sustainable gemstone sourcing.
The event will take place at the Detroit Marriott Troy in Metro Detroit from May 17–20, with plans to expand to three full days in 2025. This year's program cleverly broadened the symposium's customary focus on metallurgy and jewelry artistry after organizers received an unusual number of bids from specialists in the jewelry industry to speak, according to Linus Drogs, TJS chairman of the board.
Among the presenters at TJS' technology sessions are Joseph Strauss of HJE Company Inc., who will discuss advancements in additive manufacturing (3D printing/modeling); Anne Miller, a consultant, who will discuss generative AI; and Scott Bradford of Gesswein, who will discuss CAD techniques and tools for improving jewelry design.
Furthermore, Platinum Guild International (PGI)'s Jenny Luker will demonstrate a newly created, cutting-edge platinum alloy. Both consultant Frank Cooper and Columbia Gem House's Eric Branwaurt will examine the traceability of colored gemstones in terms of sustainability and ethical sourcing.
The popular Santa Fe Symposium, which has been conducted for almost 30 years, has been replaced by TJS, which is currently in its third year. The last Santa Fe Symposium was held in May 2022 after a few corporate adjustments, such as the sale of organizer Rio Grande.
