Dan Houser, who co-founded Rockstar Games with his brother Sam Houser, departed the firm in 2020, to launch Absurd Ventures, a new studio. They are now revealing the first glimpse of their next IP, The Absurdaverse.
The fact that the creator of Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto is going so far in the opposite way with this new project is intriguing. "An original game with a vivid story set in the Absurdaverse" is how the game is described. In a way, Grand Theft Auto was an action game with some humor elements, but this is rumored to be different.
In addition to whatever is going on with the independent Absurdaverse, Absurd Ventures has already been working on other non-gaming projects, such as the audio fiction series A Better Paradise, which will have an animated project this year.
Although introducing an "IP" instead of a particular game is strange, this project appears to have been intended to be a multimedia and entertainment world from the beginning. The first example that springs to mind is Concord, a game with a vibrant cast of characters that had an "animation project" close to launch in the form of an episode of Secret Level that released weeks after the game's redaction.
