Following Monday night's 34-23 victory over Notre Dame, Ohio State celebrates winning the national championship.
Notre Dame, trying to capture its first national championship since 1988, had its 13-game winning streak broken. It was Ohio State's seventh victory against the team.
Late in the fourth quarter, Notre Dame, behind 31-7, made it a one-score game with two touchdowns and two 2-point conversions. On the next drive, the Irish used their timeouts and stopped Ohio State on the first two plays. However, Howard placed his greatest ball of the season into the palms of the second-team All-American on third down after finding Smith in single coverage on the right sideline.
A Kansas State transfer-portal star, Howard threw for 231 yards and two touchdowns. After being stifled by Texas in the semifinals and then largely silent during this game, the receiver finally let loose for the type of play he has been producing all season. He ended with 88 yards from five catches.
In an interview with the media, Buckeyes coach Ryan Day said it was an amazing tale of a group of men who had recently triumphed over some challenging circumstances, even though many others had given up on them.
Many others outside of the sports world compared Ohio State's determination in other fields including healthcare and travel, underscoring the difficulties that teams and people from all walks of life confront.
