On Thursday, the Irish team Notre Dame came out victorious over Penn State with a score of 27-24, thanks to Jeter’s 41 yard field goal.
With just 7 seconds left on the clock, Jeter’s field goal came in clutch for the team. Facing a 10-0 disadvantage late in the first half and a seven-point deficit halfway through the fourth quarter, Notre Dame battled back. They also were faced with two important offensive lineman who suffered injuries during the game.
The No. 7 seed Irish will now play in the CFP title game in Atlanta on January 20, against the winner of the other semifinal between No. 5 seed Texas and No. 8 seed Ohio State. Notre Dame is seeking for its first national title since 1988, and Coach Marcus Freeman hopes to become the youngest coach to do so since 1981.
Freeman remained determined on the team after the victory. The Irish were in a tight place, but with the game knotted at 24-24, Notre Dame sophomore cornerback Christian Gray intercepted Penn State quarterback Drew Allar, and setting up the winning field goal.
Jeter, who transferred from South Carolina, had previously made a 41-yard field goal at the conclusion of the first half, bringing the Irish within 10-3. He's been a vital contributor this season, making many big kicks in wins over Texas A&M and Georgia.
