Striving for consumer safety, Louisiana sets new standards for THC products.
Starting January 1, 2025, Louisiana’s hemp industry will embrace transformative regulations under Act 752. These laws mark a new chapter for the $33 million THC and CBD market, targeting consumable products like gummies, seltzers, and tinctures with a sharp focus on safety and accountability.
Key changes include a reduction in THC per serving for edibles, dropping from 8 mg to 5 mg. This adjustment impacts popular items such as Crescent 9 seltzers, already designed with lower THC levels. THC beverages will also face stricter packaging rules, limited to four cans per pack, with each can counted as a single serving.
For edibles like gummies and tinctures, clear portioning will now be mandatory. Tinctures, for instance, must include droppers for accurate measurements, while packaged products cannot exceed 40 mg of total THC.
The new laws also reshape where THC products can be sold. Gas stations and attached convenience stores are banned from selling them, and bars or restaurants without state permits obtained before June 2024 will nos longer be eligible. Additionally, the minimum purchasing age will rise from 18 to 21.
Louisiana’s ban on THC vapes continues, now joined by a prohibition on flower hemp products. These comprehensive updates aim to enhance safety and control within the rapidly evolving hemp market.
By prioritizing regulation and consumer well-being, Louisiana is setting the stage for a more secure and sustainable future in its booming hemp industry.
