With new solar and grid projects planned, the Union government examines Lakshadweep's power sector with an emphasis on switching from diesel to renewable energy.

Union Power Minister Manohar Lal said during a review meeting in Kavaratti that the Union government has laid out measures to improve Lakshadweep's power sector, with an emphasis on switching from diesel-based electricity generation to renewable energy sources.

The performance of the electrical department, demand-supply balance, and current renewable energy projects were the main topics of the conference, which was attended by Lakshadweep Administrator Praful Patel & senior officials from the Union Territory administration, Government of India, including Power Finance Corporation (PFC). These consist of both floating and ground-based solar power systems.

In order to link the islands and provide a steady supply of electricity, Patel also proposed an underwater cable project. Soon, a thorough project proposal will be turned in. Additionally, he asked for assistance in updating the distribution and transmission network under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).

In addition to incorporating battery energy storage devices for grid stability, the Union Minister stressed lowering power prices by expanding the capacity of renewable energy sources. With support from the Ministry of Power, he suggested experimental programs to "green" particular islands, such as Agatti-Bangaram, Minicoy, and Kadmat.

The conversion of diesel-powered boats to greener energy sources and solar-powered electric car charging stations were also discussed. The Center restated its dedication to advancing the power industry in Lakshadweep and making the switch to sustainable energy sources.
