Biden's 'Garbage' Gaffe

Following a comedian's disparaging remark about Puerto Rico at a Donald Trump rally, he responded with remarks that have allowed Trump to divert attention from his own contentious campaign strategies.

CNN reported on Wednesday that US President Joe Biden's remark during a virtual event championing Puerto Ricans has unintentionally put him back in the political limelight only one week before the US 2024 presidential elections impact.

His comments, which he made in reaction to a comedian's disparaging statement about Puerto Rico at a Donald Trump event, have allowed Trump to divert attention from his own contentious campaign strategies.

Biden said that Puerto Ricans are nice, decent, and respectable, and he took issue with the comedian's portrayal of the country as a floating garbage island. But according to CNN, his defense caused a political commotion that overshadowed Vice President Kamala Harris's important farewell remarks on Tuesday night.

And just the other day, one of the speakers at his rally called Puerto Rico a floating island of trash. Despite coming from Delaware, Biden stated in a virtual address meant to assist Harris that he thought Puerto Ricans were wonderful, decent, and respectable people.

He added that his demonization of Latinos is unconscionable and un-American, and that his supporters are the only trash he sees floating around.

When Biden made his comments, the White House swiftly clarified that he was referring to the hate speech at the Trump event, not the former president's supporters. According to CNN, Biden himself turned to social media to clarify that his usage of the word "garbage" was directed at remarks made about Puerto Rico rather than Trump's followers.
