For a long time, Elon Musk took cautious to deny any indication that he supported either major political party in the United States.
Four persons with knowledge of Elon Musk's political donations claim that the billionaire entrepreneur coveredtly contributed to a conservative political organization in the last several years, demonstrating his discreet financial support for Elon Musk right-wing interests even before he sponsored former President Donald Trump's reelection campaign in July.
By 2022, Musk started making contributions to Building America's Future, according to two people who are aware of the gifts, as reported by Reuters. According to one of those individuals and a third source, the donations totaled millions of dollars, greatly supporting a group that has been criticizing the Biden administration and progressive political platforms—the same ones that Musk has been criticizing more and more—through social media campaigns and advertisements.
Reuters was unable to locate any records tying the organization's money to Musk or pinpoint an exact sum and timing for the contributions. A media outlet said earlier on Wednesday that Musk had provided funding to further pro-Republican organizations.
Musk did not reply to emails asking for clarification. Nor did a representative for Building America's Future provide a response.
For a long time, Elon Musk, the billionaire behind businesses including social networking platform X, space contractor SpaceX, and automaker Tesla, took cautious to deny any indication that he supported either major political party in the United States. As recently as March, he made a social media statement, months before he publicly supported Trump and said he would create a political action group to defeat Democrats: "Just to be super clear, I am not donating money to either candidate for US President."
But contributions to Building America's Future would demonstrate that he was already supporting right-wing causes with his enormous wealth. The organization is not compelled by federal law to reveal its financial donors since it is a non-profit 501(c) (4) organization.
