Haiku, Inc. won first prize as one of the six finalists in the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency's (DARPA) Tools Competition for the track titled "Building an Adaptive and Competitive Workforce." This year's champions of this track took home $750,000.
The track searched for materials to assist adult learners in gaining the essential skills needed for the workforce in national security in the future. This DARPA-sponsored event brought together teams of technologists, experts in digital learning systems, researchers, students, and educators. Their recommendations included resources to give adults the advanced knowledge and abilities required for the quickly changing 21st century, such as data science and STEM competencies.
With the help of this funding, Haiku, Inc. will be able to develop useful 5G wireless education on its exclusive game-based learning platform, allowing adults to upskill into or reskill into well-paying jobs.
Haiku, Inc.'s CEO, Eric Basu, conveyed his company's appreciation for winning the DARPA Tools contest as well as their platform's ability to help students acquire real-world skills that may lead to new career prospects.
The "Building an Adaptive and Competitive Workforce" track was one of six funding possibilities offered during the 2023–2024 Tools Competition cycle. This year, the Tools Competition attracted over 1,900 entries from all across the world, more than 230 of which were from DARPA's track alone.
The Tools Competition, which is presently in its fourth phase, has awarded $17.5 million to 130 creators of educational technology globally. The next iteration of the Tools Competition will begin in September 2024.
