Generac Power Systems 200M DOE funding Puerto Rico solar

Generac Power Systems announced today that it has received a $200 million award under the Puerto Rico Energy Resilience Fund (PR-ERF) from the U.S. Department of Energy.

Programa Acceso Solar (Solar Access Program), which aims to install residential solar and battery storage systems for underprivileged households in Puerto Rico, will benefit from the award, which is a part of a $1 billion program. The goal is to start installation in August 2024.

In order to combat frequent and extended power outages, Generac will work with local affiliates to provide clean, resilient energy to low-income communities and homes containing members who have energy-dependent disabilities.

This initiative will support Puerto Rico's objective of obtaining all of its electricity from renewable sources by 2050 and generate jobs in the clean energy sector. Applying to the program is possible for residents of Puerto Rico through the Programa Acceso Solar website.

According to Generac President and CEO Aaron Jagdfeld, the company has been offering Puerto Rico dependable backup power solutions for more than 20 years, including during the aftermath of Hurricane Maria. He continued by saying that they were honored to get this DOE award in order to provide impoverished communities with reliable, efficient, and clean energy.

Director of the DOE's Grid Deployment Office, Maria Robinson, highlighted the benefits of the initiative, stating that vulnerable households will have much easier access to energy thanks to Programa Acceso Solar. She continued by saying that they were happy to work with Generac to strengthen Puerto Rico's energy resilience.
