Shiver Entertainment, the company responsible for porting games to the Nintendo Switch, will be acquired by Nintendo, the company announced today.

The firm announced in a press release that it has made a deal with Embracer to buy all the remaining shares of Shiver, a company based in Miami, making it a fully owned subsidiary. Nintendo states that since its founding in 2012, Shiver has collaborated with publishers and developers on large-scale game production commissions. In 2021, the Embracer Group made a purchase.

Nintendo wanted to improve their software development and porting abilities by hiring Shiver's experienced team. Shiver's future focus will remain the same after joining the Nintendo group, continuing software development and porting projects for various platforms, including the Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo recently announced that they will reveal the successor to the Switch before March 31, 2025. Nintendo will announce its future plans soon, but it's unclear if they will mention the Switch successor, sometimes referred to as the Switch 2.

Shiver is known for creating Scribblenauts Showdown and bringing games like Mortal Kombat 11, Hogwarts Legacy, and Mortal Kombat 1 to different platforms. The Mortal Kombat 1 port got harsh criticism, but Hogwarts Legacy and Mortal Kombat 11 ports did well.

Nintendo said that the acquisition will have only a small impact on its results for this fiscal year, but it did not disclose the financial terms of the acquisition in its announcement.
