Lloyd’s has granted approval for the commencement of underwriting by AXIS Capital’s Energy Transition Syndicate 2050, starting April 1. This final approval follows a preliminary green light issued last December to establish a syndicate dedicated to facilitating the energy transition. Syndicate 2050 aims to provide specialized insurance solutions tailored to mitigate risks associated with the shift from fossil fuels to greener, low-carbon alternatives. Elliot Lyes, who leads upstream energy operations at AXIS, will serve as the active underwriter for Syndicate 2050. Lyes, along with a diverse team of underwriters, will focus on delivering customized insurance services that address the unique challenges of transitioning to sustainable energy sources.
He further emphasized Syndicate 2050's pivotal role in AXIS's commitment to the energy transition, stating that obtaining authorization to underwrite through Energy Transition Syndicate 2050 marks a milestone for AXIS. Starting in April, the company will offer a centralized access point to comprehensive cross-class insurance solutions for energy projects crucial to facilitating the transition to net zero. Reflecting on the initial approval secured in 2023, Gregory noted that the company aspired to lead the market in providing specialized insurance solutions that facilitate investment, innovation, and technological advancements essential for fostering cleaner, more resilient energy sources. The approach is closely aligned with Lloyd’s commitment to supporting an ‘urgent and orderly transition to net zero.’
