Mattel bolstered its board of directors with the appointments of media and entertainment veterans Julius Genachowski and Dawn Ostroff, effective February 5, 2024. This move aligns with the company's strategy to expand its intellectual property-driven toy business and delve deeper into the entertainment realm. Genachowski, a seasoned professional with expertise in technology, media, telecom, and finance, joins Mattel with a distinguished career. Julius currently serves as a Senior Advisor at Carlyle, a leading global investment firm. Before that, he held the prestigious position of Chairman of the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC), where he spearheaded the development of the National Broadband Plan and modernized digital media and communication regulations.

Ostroff brings over three decades of expertise in media, entertainment, technology, and advertising to the table. Her impressive track record showcases her ability to navigate industry changes and adapt companies to meet the evolving demands of new consumer generations. Notably, she held the position of Chief Content and advertising Business Officer at Spotify before joining Mattel. Additionally, she founded the successful Condé Nast Entertainment and held prominent leadership roles at CW, Paramount Network, and Activision Blizzard. By bringing together Genachowski's vast understanding of technology, regulation, and governance with Ostroff's proven success in content creation, brand building, and consumer engagement, Mattel aims to leverage its combined expertise to further expand its reach and influence in the entertainment and toy industries. This strategic move reflects the company's commitment to innovation and growth in the ever-evolving media landscape.
