In conversation with Angela Diaz Ogaz, Business Development Manager at TransformAcción
Q. What is the story of TransformAcción? Why did you decide to create a company that provides services focused on Organizational Development?
Previously, as a business manager, my hard and distrustful management style caused issues for everyone. I was overworked, the team underutilized, and there was a distinct lack of synergy. After undergoing leadership and coaching training, I realized that my management style was influenced by unconscious and inherited beliefs. These beliefs hindered the creation of a high-performance team.
I began working on myself in a challenging process. It's hard to reflect on our mistakes and pride, and be willing to consider new ideas and approaches. Many people refer to these abilities as "soft skills", but these are actually the hard skills. Technical skills can be obtained easily nowadays. What truly sets professionals apart is their ability to build connections and relationships in organizational settings. This contributes to building synergy and achieving impeccable coordination within a team, where everyone understands their role in achieving the final result and takes responsibility for it.
As a line manager, the change in me had a great impact on the team dynamics and results. I realized this wasn't just about my company, so I created a training and consulting company that focuses on changing organizational cultures. The goal is to demonstrate better ways to achieve exceptional results through love and understanding. This approach involves everyone understanding their contribution to the value chain and how their service or product satisfies client values. Ultimately, it's about the connection between human beings.
Q. How is TransformAcción revolutionizing human resource development and skills development at an organizational level?
Our team has a unique background that sets us apart. All of us come from a corporate background, having worked as collaborators, middle managers, and eventually managers ourselves. This firsthand experience in the corporate world has given us valuable insights into the challenges businesses face. We understand the impact of training and consulting because we have lived through it ourselves.
I, personally, had a reputation for being tough in my management style. However, this doesn't make me a bad person. It was simply a reflection of my beliefs at the time. I failed to consider the perspective of the team. But over time, I went through a personal transformation, as did the rest of our coaching team. This transformation has deepened our understanding of our clients and students. We recognize the common human struggles that occur in management roles. With empathy and care, we support our clients in addressing their fears, as these fears can hinder collaboration and hinder value creation.
Our clients and students appreciate that we explain complex concepts in a simple and practical way, making them easy to apply in daily work. In our change management programs, we listen to teams and individuals in the organization to effectively drive change.
Q. What role does having a highly motivated team play in your business model?
In our business, we understand the importance of emotional aspects in achieving great results. Our team and freelance consultants share our philosophy of fostering constant learning in organizations. We believe in the power of change and resilience, and we aim to inspire others to realize their potential and shape their own futures through self-reflection and asking important questions about their future goals. We focus on the "for what," which looks to the future and helps us understand the lessons life presents us.
Q. Can you explain more about the products and services offered by TransformAcción?
Today we offer training to companies and government institutions in general management skills. We also have leadership and accountability culture programs, along with additional support activities to help with personal, team, and organizational transformation. Our team provides ontological executive coaching services, systemic team and organizational coaching, and life coaching. We offer training on agility topics and assist teams in managing change to become agile organizations. Our consulting services focus on helping organizations with change management. We assist with improving work environments, implementing new business models, technologies, and organizational structures.
In education, we offer tools for including children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and help management teams improve results by using a model that prioritizes children.
Q. What were some of the most memorable challenges that you and the TransformAcción team have overcome? How did the company learn from these challenges?
The pandemic was a major challenge for us and made us question the effectiveness of online training. Initially, as a member of Generation X, I was resistant to the idea and believed that in-person training was more effective. However, our clients pushed us to try online training. At first, we were worried about its success, but now, after 3 or 4 years, I admit that I wasted time in 2020 by resisting this change. I have learned that online training can be effective as long as we ensure active participation, such as keeping the camera on and engaging in team activities in virtual rooms. This training option is also cost-effective for companies as they no longer need to spend on training rooms or food for participants, which sometimes cost more than the training itself. This is great news as it encourages more companies to invest in employee training.
Another big challenge has been attracting new clients. Historically, all of our clients have been referred, and we know that we can grow with customer management. Today we are focused on that, on proactively going out to find clients in the market.
Q. What are TransformAcción’s plans for the future?
In the future, we want to consolidate our change management area more strongly, as well as our work in education, and without a doubt our greatest challenge is to internationalize our company and reach LATAM with our services. We have some experience with large clients in Chile that have operations in South America, and that has led us to train in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Peru.
