Haus Labs, Lady Gaga’s brand under fire following criticism over its latest liquid bronzer collection, with concerns raised about inclusivity in its shade range. The chaos started when beauty influencer Golloria George, who is known for her social media reviews of cosmetics, expressed her thoughts about the recently announced bronzer hues prior to their official release. After testing the three darkest shades on camera, George questioned whether the items were appropriate for those with deeper skin tones.
George stated in her assessment that the bronzers did not seem to work well on darker complexions and that she was disappointed with the formulation and choice of hue. Her remarks rapidly went viral on the internet, sparking a larger discussion about representation in the beauty business and whether big cosmetic companies are doing enough to cater to a broad clientele.
The influencer further claimed that she was not fully informed about the limitations pertaining to pre-release testing and that she was confused about the product's embargo limits. She added to the virtual debate about the brand's response to early comments by pointing out that an earlier video about the product had been briefly taken off.
Lady Gaga started Haus Labs in 2019, and it has already received recognition for its inclusive approach to complexion goods, especially her foundation line, which debuted with a wide spectrum of hues. In 2022, the brand relaunched with an emphasis on being gentle on the skin, clean ingredients and new product categories, such as highlighters and bronzers.
The debate has rekindled larger industry discussions about shade diversity and inclusivity requirements in celebrity-led cosmetic lines, even though the brand has not yet released an extensive public response to the most recent criticism at the time of publication.
Reactions on social media are still split; some users support the company's prior inclusive product development initiatives, while others express the influencer's worries.
Thus, Business Fortune is of the view that brands must prioritize inclusivity and transparency to maintain consumer trust and credibility.
