Haas is preparing to launch Ferrari Software update during the Miami Grand Prix weekend, using the limited practice session to evaluate its performance on track.

Haas plans to launch a new software package created by Ferrari during the upcoming Miami Grand Prix weekend, using the event free practice session as an essential on-track testing opportunity.

The Miami race weekend is becoming an important event for Haas, not just because of the new Ferrari software, but also because of what it could mean for performance on track. The team plans to test how the updated energy management and control systems work in real racing conditions, especially since there is very limited time to gather data during the weekend.

Haas vehicle engineering head Hoagy Nidd said that, as a customer team, Haas follows Ferrari’s software direction and does not directly influence its development. He also explained that once the software is fitted, the team will study it closely to understand how it changes the car’s behavior. This includes how energy is used during laps and how consistent the car performs from one lap to the next. While the update is not expected to drastically improve overall performance, it could still lead to small changes in how the team runs the car during the weekend.

Before it can be used, the change must also be approved by the World Motor Sport Council, with the goal of introducing it at the Miami Grand Prix in early May. The Miami weekend uses a Sprint format, which gives teams just one hour of practice before they enter parc fermé (closed park), where major setup changes are restricted.

Because of this short practice time, teams usually focus on basic car setup rather than testing new ideas. However, Haas believes this could be different if the new Ferrari software is ready in time for use on track.

Business Fortune notes that the Miami Grand Prix could give Haas a first real glimpse of how the Ferrari software performs under race conditions and whether it brings any meaningful advantage.
