Travis Kalanick launches Atoms, a robotics startup focused on specialized industrial robots for food services, transportation, and mining.

Former Uber CEO and co-founder Travis Kalanick established a new company called Atoms with the goal of creating specialized industrial robots that will automate jobs in a number of significant industries. The company is focusing on industries like food services, transportation, and mining.

The startup is an extension and rebranding of City Storage Systems, which Kalanick started after quitting Uber. The new business is part of a larger trend toward robotics and physical AI systems that are intended to automate jobs in the real world rather than just digital ones. The startup Atoms has three sections which include: Atoms Food, which offers infrastructure for the food business; Atoms Transport, which Kalanick referred to as a "wheelbase for robots," and Atoms Mining, which aims to increase mine productivity.

According to Kalanick, the highly specialized robots created for specific tasks will outperform general-purpose humanoid robots, which still face significant technical problems like as navigating uncertain settings and acquiring advanced reasoning abilities. He emphasized the idea of practical automation and explained that the company's goal is to create "gainfully employed robots," which are machines designed particularly to carry out productive tasks.

Travis Kalanick has returned to entrepreneurship with the launching of Atoms, concentrating on developing technologies that integrate automation, robotics, and artificial intelligence to revolutionize physical industries. Kalanick also stated that he is nearing the acquisition of Pronto, a mining and industrial autonomous vehicle startup founded by his former Uber colleague Anthony Levandowski. And Kalanick considers himself as the current largest investor of Pronto, in order to enhance the mining enterprise.
