Nokia Corporation has announced plans to establish a Global Capability Center (GCC) and further research centers in Karnataka.
Industries Minister MB Patil stated that the telecom giant, which has been connected to Karnataka for more than 25 years and has its largest worldwide research center in Bengaluru, reportedly discussed plans to extend operations throughout the state, particularly in Tier-2 cities. This commitment shows Nokia's dedication to set its position in India's rapidly growing technology sector. However the government has assured full support for Nokia’s future expansion plans, said Minister Patil.
He further stated that the Karnataka government is committed to supporting the WEF's Yes-BLR UpLink initiative, which intends to expand the 'Yes Bengaluru' program on sustainable urban development into a worldwide recognized platform for government-industry partnership.
The discussions happened during meetings between senior Nokia officials and the state government on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) summit in Davos. Minister Patil said the matter was discussed in detail during a meeting with John Dutton, Head of UpLink at WEF. The project offers financial help, mentorship, and pilot chances to start-ups that address real-world, city-specific concerns and contribute to urban development. The WEF UpLink delegation reportedly welcomed Karnataka's ongoing support for the program.
Nokia's further plans to expand its existing research presence in Karnataka beyond the GCC establishment. This expansion aligns with the state's reputation as a major technology hub, hosting numerous global companies' research and development operations.
The launching of Nokia's Global Capability Centre in Karnataka is a strategic move that might improve the company's operational efficiency while also benefiting the state's technology ecosystem. The program reveals Karnataka's constant appeal as a location for global technology investments and research activity.
