Business Fortune- KPop Demon Hunters Chaos

As a new wave of K-pop frenzy is sparked by the film's worldwide success, Netflix and Everland Park collaborate to bring the popular Sony animation to life.

Crowds of people wait for hours to join the "KPop Demon Hunters" craze at the biggest amusement park in South Korea. The Sony Pictures Animation movie's distributor, the U.S. streaming behemoth Netflix, has partnered with Everland Park outside of Seoul's capital city to create a themed area with dance activities, whack-a-mole, and movie munchies. It's the most recent version of the "KPop Demon Hunters" craze, with the movie sweeping Netflix and boosting the $10 billion K-pop music industry in the process.

In August, Netflix announced that "KPop Demon Hunters" had surpassed all previous Netflix films in popularity. The streamer reported that "KPop Demon Hunters" had received more than 325 million views in October. The company has made two limited-time theatrical screenings of the movie and struck consumer product agreements with Hasbro and Mattel to get "KPop Demon Hunters" toys and merchandise on shelves in an effort to capitalize on the popularity.

As an associate producer for the film, Agnes Lee assisted with casting and location scouting from Seoul. K-pop and K-culture played such a significant role in this film, Lee told CNBC in Seoul.

K-pop music, which was formerly mostly popular in Asia, is now a worldwide sensation. K-pop gained international attention thanks to performers like PSY, who rose to fame in 2012 with his viral music video "Gangnam Style." That year, PSY's popular song became the most viewed video on YouTube.

Other K-pop artists have since achieved remarkable success as well. The song "Dynamite" by BTS has received more than two billion Spotify plays. According to Touring Data statistics at the time, BLACKPINK's 2023 tour became the highest-grossing by a female group on record.  Even imaginary bands from "KPop Demon Hunters" are currently at the top of the international music charts.

Despite the "K-pop" in the title, Danny Chung, a K-pop producer and the voice of Baby Saja in the movie, claimed to have watched "KPop Demon Hunters." After seeing it, they thought, "Oh, wow." I love K-pop. They now have to delve into the entire back library of three decades of K-pop songs.
