Khulna Region Aims Over 9.49 Lakh Tonnes of Robi Crops as Farmers Increase Saline Resilient Cultivation.

The Khulna Department of Agricultural Extension aims to harvest 949,602 metric tons of Robi crops from 108,851 hectares of land in the districts of Khulna, Satkhira, Bagerhat, and Narail during 2025 to 26. DAE representatives stated that farmers have already bought around 51,167 hectares under cultivation.

In the coastal districts of Khulna, Satkhira, and Bagerhat, these crops are increasingly being grown on saline resilient lands along the coastal belt, serving to improve markets and decrease shortages. The region harvested 13.02 lakh tonnes of crops from 68,302 hectares of land during 2024 to 25, with almost 30,000 hectares being destroyed by natural disasters.

According to Md Rafiqul Islam, Additional Director of the DAE in Khulna, Robi crops are being grown by farmers in the Khulna agricultural region; the season will end in March of the next year. Also, farmers expect a good harvest this season due to favorable weather and enough irrigation. In the past year, more than two lakh families raised their standard of living with support from the DAE by becoming financially independent through Robi farming. In order to promote Robi farming, the government provides small and marginal farmers with premium seed and fertilizers, while Bangladesh Krishi Bank and other commercial banks have provided agricultural loans.

Nowab Ali, Sharif Gazi, Nuru Hawlader, and Gobinda Das, and many farmers from Khulna's Koyra and Paikgachha upazilas, told BSS that they have upgraded their position in lifestyles by growing a range of crops on saline-resistant land during the Robi season. After harvesting Aman rice, many farmers have planted mustard and other short-duration crops on the same land to raise cropping intensity and boost revenue.
