Karnataka plans to expand quantum tech beyond Bengaluru to cities like Mysuru and Hubballi, improving research, startups, and jobs.
According to Sanjeev Kumar Gupta, CEO of the Karnataka Digital Economy Mission (KDEM), the state’s efforts in quantum computing go beyond Bengaluru, with plans to develop technology hubs in Mangaluru, Mysuru, and Hubballi. This is due to the technology's ability to cross metro boundaries and open up high-value jobs, entrepreneurship, and sophisticated R&D across the state.
Many specialists who spoke at the event on Friday predicted that the State would soon have the most complete quantum ecosystem. He was speaking at the two-day Quantum India Bengaluru (QIB) 2025, an event focused on highlighting Karnataka's growing leadership in quantum research and technology.
24 multi-track seminars covering five different theme streams—from finance to the arts—were part of the summit. Additionally, more than 20 academic institutions, research institutes, and deep-tech startups participated. The significance of extensive reskilling programs to facilitate translational deep-tech development in quantum computing, communication, and sensing (primarily in healthcare and surveillance) was emphasized by a variety of speakers to advance India's quantum technologies.
In a poster showcase, over 41 research posters from academics and PhD students offered a range of viewpoints on topics like hardware, cryptography, and quantum algorithms. The Karnataka Science and Technology Promotion Society (KSTePS) and the Government of Karnataka, the Department of Technology and Science, in partnership with the IISc's Quantum Technology Initiative (IQTI), arranged the event under the National Quantum Mission.
