Using its Altiplano Access Controller, Nokia said on Tuesday that the Saudi Arabian telecom stc Group has successfully finished a proof-of-concept for network slicing across a GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network) infrastructure.
Using the access controller, stc created and managed many network slices within its current GPON infrastructure during the Proof of Concept, which was carried out at its test facility in Riyadh. Each network slice was tuned for certain performance needs, including bandwidth, latency, and reliability. According to stc, the slices were designed to provide services including mobile backhaul, smart city solutions, secure government operations, cloud gaming, and business connections.
According to stc, it was able to optimize infrastructure efficiency, enhance user experience, and speed up service rollout by using the Altiplano controller to dynamically distribute network resources.
According to Bader Allhieb, VP of Network Infrastructure at stc, once the solution is implemented, it will enable the company to provide cutting-edge digital services more quickly and efficiently while also opening up new income streams for its wholesale, business-to-business, and digital infrastructure projects.
Ibrahim Al-Abbas, head of Nokia's stc Group Sales Unit for Network Infrastructure, described the Altiplano Access Controller as a software program for automating and managing broadband access networks that integrates with equipment from multiple vendors and supports multiple PON technologies via a single interface. It gives service providers the ability to automate and optimize network management, which enhances user experiences, increases efficiency, and speeds up service delivery.
