Farmshare Connects Cattle Producers with Beef Wholesalers

Through separate processing facilities, Farmshare facilitates a more direct market connection between producers and end consumers.

Three major problems have made it difficult for farmers or groups of producers to sell directly into wholesale beef channels: logistics, scale, and carcass balance. In a recent AgriTalk session, Arrowood discussed how the system gives wholesale purchasers a means of getting in touch with smaller producers that can deliver locally produced, unique, and value-added goods.

Smaller, local farmers that wish to sell meat have continued to struggle to find a market for the full corpse. So far. According to Arrowood, the firm uses artificial intelligence to generate yield distribution and pricing models in order to price optimize the complete animal for the final producer. According to him, the system finds other purchasers for the strips, tenderloins, ground beef, etc. if one bidder claims the rib-eyes.

Arrowood got the concept for Farmshare after personally witnessing the difficulties in the cattle supply chain. As a computer expert, Arrowood started thinking about how to make distribution more efficient so that independent processors might benefit and the end producer could receive fair financials.

Farmshare is prepared to broaden its reach and now collaborates with processors in over 25 states nationwide. According to Arrowood, the technology can reduce the amount of phone calls, paper pushing, and filing that an independent operator must do in order to run their business by automating and simplifying a number of manual procedures and complications that processors face today.
