SpecterOps Secures $75M to Expand Identity Attack Protection

To create tools that stop adversaries from moving throughout an organization's network, a security business that prides itself on thinking like hackers raised $75 million.

According to CEO David McGuire, SpecterOps intends to leverage the Series B capital to expand its capabilities beyond Microsoft's Active Directory and expand in the identity security area with attack route management. According to him, SpecterOps stands out from conventional security products due to its distinct approach to identify attack route management.

Founded in 2017, SpecterOps has 162 employees and has secured $108.5 million in outside investment, including a $25 million Series A round led by Decibel in April 2023. Since the team's founding, McGuire has served as its leader. For over four years, the CEO worked as a worldwide network exploitation vulnerability analyst for the National Security Agency Red Team during his more than seven years with the US Marines.

Eliminating attack routes before enemies can take advantage of them is the main goal of SpecterOps. By enhancing attack route identification and prevention, it makes sure that businesses proactively block possible attack vectors before attackers take use of them.

Customers should focus more on eliminating secret attack pathways that attackers might use to move laterally within an organization rather than adding perimeter security, McGuire advises. Strong exterior defenses that are tall and thick like a castle curtain wall are required by traditional security systems. According to McGuire, SpecterOps views security as an internal battleground where attackers maneuver through configuration errors, privilege escalation routes, and identity-based vulnerabilities.
